  2. Venlo is a municipality and a city in the southeastern Netherlands, next to the German border. It is situated in the province of Limburg. The old center of Venlo lies on the east side of the river Meuse. In 2012, Venlo will play host to the world famous Floriade exhibition.

    Venlo town centre offers shopping enthusiasts a varied and international selection of shops along with attractive cafés and restaurants. Other attractions include the Limburgs Museum and Museum Van Bommel Van Dam. The town centre also boasts monumental buildings and traditional architecture. Interesting monuments include the Sint Martinuskerk (Church of Saint Martin), the town hall, the Ald Weishoes and the old Blerick town hall. Tegelen and the nearby picturesque convent and monastery village of Steyl are must sees. Here you will find numerous convents and monasteries with magnificent gardens.

    Port Location – The Venlo river port is located on the Meuse river, on the outskirts of the city of Venlo.

    Transport Links – Venlo is about two hours by train from Amsterdam, half an hour from Eindhoven, and about one hour from Nijmegen. There are also connections to German cities like Duisburg, Cologne and Düsseldorf. Some of them require a stopover in Vierssen. Besides the central station in Venlo, you can also get off the train in Blerick and Tegelen.

    There are regional buses, and some regional busses coming from Germany. However, trains are a better option for international travel.

    The nearest airports are Airport Weeze, Eindhoven and Düsseldorf International Airport. There are also airports in Maastricht and Cologne are not that far away.
