  2. Bacharach is a town in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It lies in the Rhine Gorge, 48 km south of Koblenz. For centuries the town has been famous for growing and trading wine. In the middle ages, Bacharach was known around the world as a main storage station for wines from the Middle Rhine, Nahe and Rheingau, and was one of the best known wine regions.

    The medieval town with its ancient town walls, Stahleck castle, the gothic Wernerkapelle, and the Stahlberg ruins in the village of Steeg have been attracting tourists for many years.

    Travel Links - Bacharach lies on the Rhine’s left bank and can be reached by Bundesstraße 9 or the Rhine. Running regularly to and from Bacharach are the excursion ships of the Köln-Düsseldorfer-Rheinschiffahrt, or KD for short.
    Transport routes on the other side of the river can be reached by ferry from the Engelsburg (castle) over to Kaub.
