  2. Mannheim is a city in southwestern Germany. It is located at the confluence of the River Rhine and the River Neckar in the northwestern corner of Baden-Württemberg. Mannheim is known as "die Quadratestadt" (the German word for "city of the squares) due to its streets and avenues of its central area being laid out in a grid pattern.

    Attractions in Mannheim include the second largest Baroque castle in Europe and the water tower. The Reiss-Engelhorn Museum (REM) houses a permanent exhibit on world cultures along with an exhibition hall whose contents range from photography to astronomy.

    Travel Links – There are daily passenger flights from Mannheim City Airport to Berlin, Hamburg and Saarbrücken. Transport from Frankfurt airport (65 km), to Mannheim or neighboring Ludwigshafen, is by ICE high speed train or Lufthansa Airport Shuttle bus.

    Mannheim is a regional transport hub with ICE, IC and regional trains all stopping in Mannheim Hauptbahnhof.

    Mannheim is served by Eurolines with overnight long distance services to destinations in France, UK and other neighboring countries. The bus station (ZOB) is at Heinrich-von-Stephan-Str, near the Main Station (Hauptbahnhof). Deutsche Touring also offers an inexpensive overnight bus service with tickets to Hamburg via Frankfurt and Hannover.
