  1. Port Overview

  1. Kuttawa, Kentucky

  2. Kuttawa local is a 5th-class city near Lake Barkley in Lyon County, Kentucky, in the United States of America.

Kuttawa seems to have been the name of a Cherokee village near the site, whose meaning is a matter of dispute: it has been variously translated as "beautiful", "city in the woods", and "great wilderness". The city was formally incorporated by the state assembly in 1872, the same year it received its post office.

In the early 1960s, the Tennessee Valley Authority constructed a dam across the Cumberland River at Grand Rivers, (both tributaries of The Mississippi River) forming Lake Barkley. Eddyville and Kuttawa were both moved from their original locations owing to the impounded lake. There is good fishing to be had in this area and steamships to take passengers back to the days of the old south.

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Kuttawa has a humid subtropical climate.

Seasons vary by river and the Lower Mississippi River cruises which commence in New Orleans and include Kuttawa, operate year round. Visit picturesque riverside towns in Mississippi and Tennessee and enjoy a historical lecture in Kuttawa, Kentucky, finishing in country music capital "Nashville".

The weather varies according to the region, river and season. Fall cruises to view the autumn colours will be cooler while summer cruises on the lower Mississippi will be warm to hot.
