  2. Clifton is a city in Wayne County, Tennessee, United States. It sits high on a cliff above the Tennessee River and was a significant site during the American Civil War.

    Attractions include the historical T.S. Stribling House and Museum. Author Thomas S. Stribling (1881-1965), often described as a "literary maverick," wrote works critical of the South which were mainly set in northern Alabama during the antebellum period. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1933 for his novel, The Store.
