Denia, Spain

Denia is located in the province of Alicante, Spain, on the Costa Blanca halfway between Alicante and Valencia. The city, is located at the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula and is very close to the Cap de Sant Antoni, the closest point of the Iberian Peninsula to the Balearic Islands.

The city of Denia is located in a natural port on the slopes of Montgo (753 metres high) - a hill crowned by a very ancient castle. One of the main attractions of Denia are the beaches. It has around 20 km. of coast divided in three parts: one sandy, the harbour and one rocky. The port serves as the division between the northern beaches, Les Marines, and the southern ones, Les Rotes.

Almost everywhere in the town you can find ancient ruins, including the ruins of an historic fortress which overlooks the town. The fortress, with Arab remains, is well worth a visit, along with other monuments and museums showing the history of the city, as well its archaeological and ethnic history. It is very interesting to walk around the old fisherman neighborhood, the harbour or the main street (Carrer Marqués de Campos).

Port Location – The port is located in the downtown area of Denia, at the base Mount Montgo.

Travel Links – The ferry to Ibiza and the other Balearic Islands departs from Denia. During the summer there is also one going to Formentera.
Denia also serves as a terminus of a picturesque metre gauge railway line through the mountains from Alicante (popularly known as the Limón Express), run by FGV. There is only one train going into Denia, and comes from Alicante. It is also known as El trenet. Going always by the coast, it is an interesting trip (around 2,5 hours) with good sightseeing.
There are daily buses going to and coming from Madrid, Valencia and Alicante.
Ferry boats going to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza and Mallorca).
Nearby Alicante Airport (ALC), is connected by many international airlines, is located 11 km (6.8 miles) south of the city. Alicante is served by Iberia, German Wings, Spanair, Air Berlin, Finnair, TUI Fly, and Easyjet. Bus No C-6, departs for the city every 45 minutes from Bus stop No 30; it takes about 30 minutes.
