  2. Burlington is a city in Iowa, United States. It is located on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. The city skyline, features a number of church steeples including St. John's, which has often been used by photographers to take panoramic vistas of the area. The only other structure that stands taller than the spire of the cathedral, is the central pier of the Great River Bridge, which soars over 370 feet above the Mississippi River.

    The downtown area holds a number of buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, among them are the Burlington Apartments (listed as the Hotel Burlington), the Burlington Railroad Depot, the Des Moines County Courthouse, the Burlington Fire Department central station, the Port of Burlington building, Memorial Auditorium, River Park Place (as Burlington Mercy Hospital), the Burlington Police Department building (as Burlington Paper Company), and several others.

    Travel Links – Amtrak's passenger train the California Zephyr stops in Burlington on its runs between Chicago and San Francisco.

    American Connection, an affiliate of American Airlines, has three flights a day from St Louis to Southeast Iowa Regional Airport, about five miles south of town. The flights take between 51 and 60 minutes.

    Greyhound Lines and Trailways Transportation System provide daily out-of-town bus service.
