The Cathedral was rebuilt after the Great Fire of London in 1666. In recent years it has seen the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, to Lady Diana Spencer and, more recently, the thanksgiving services for both the Diamond Jubilee and 80th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Climb 259 steps up the dome and you will find The Whispering Gallery, which runs around the interior of the Dome. It gets its name from a charming quirk in its construction, which makes a whisper against its walls audible on the opposite side. Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066-7 and enlarged by successive sovereigns, the Tower of London is one of the world's most famous and spectacular fortresses. Over the past 1000 years it has been a Royal Palace, an armoury and a place of imprisonment and execution. The Beefeaters who guard the Tower will regale you with stories of its past. We will visit the Crown Jewels, including the magnificent solid-gold crown used at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the enormous Cullinan diamonds and the extraordinary Koh-I-Noor.

Cruise Description

14 Night Cruise sailing from Southampton roundtrip aboard Queen Victoria.

QUEEN VICTORIA captivates with her graceful splendour and a luxurious ambience so evocative of great liners past. With luxurious marbles, woods and rich fabrics she exudes elegance.

Warmly reminiscent of a more gracious era, modern technology combines seamlessly with her classic yet contemporary interior. Crafted to exude elegance with intricate mosaics, gleaming chandeliers and luxuriant marbles. Crafted too, for sublime comfort with plush carpets, rich fabrics and soft furnishings.

Highlights of this cruise:

The dark waters of the River Liffey swirling beneath the Halfpenny Bridge appear to transport you to a different age, the literary Dublin of Yeats, Shaw, Swift and Wilde. From the smart surroundings of St. Stephen’s Green, down bustling O’Connell Street, to the blarney welcome you'll find waiting in a hundred little bars and restaurants the craic, like the Guinness, is always good in Dublin.

The most northerly point of the British Isles, little Lerwick can compete with the world’s most memorable locations on any cruise. The only town and capital of the Shetland Isles, Lerwick lies 100 miles from mainland Scotland and is nearer to Norway. Originally given as a gift in a Danish Princess’s dowry in the mid 1400s, Shetland has kept much of its Scandinavian feel to this day. There are many surprises in Lerwick, not least the fascinating local dialect, Doric, an intriguing mix of Pict, Old Norse, Gaelic and Ancient Greek. Discover Neolithic archaeological sites, Iron Age artefacts and mysterious standing stones.

Established in the mid-17th century, Akureyri is home to Iceland’s largest fishing company and its biggest shipyard. Viking sagas, spectacular fjords, snow-capped mountains... Iceland’s ‘Capital of the North’ is also surprisingly mild and the so-called Green Town is made for those long summer days.

A mass of brightly coloured corrugated iron roofs is a familiar sight here in the world’s most northern capital city. Experience the incredible views of the Golden Waterfall and wonder at the spouting geysers. Join in a national pastime – shopping! Designer labels, local wool, gourmet treats, even a flea market, it’s all right here.
