Henderson, Pitcairn Islands

Henderson Island is an uninhabited uplifted coral island in the south Pacific Ocean, annexed to the Pitcairn Islands colony in 1902. It is located 193 km northeast of Pitcairn Island. Henderson Island was designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1988 because of its bird life and untouched phosphate reserves. Its four endemic species of birds include the Henderson Flightless Rail, one of a family of increasingly rare flightless bird species.

Henderson has been described by scientists as ‘the most pristine tropical island in the world’. Daytrips to Henderson allows visitors the chance to see the Henderson Dove, Henderson Rail, Henderson Parrot, Henderson Warbler and Henderson Petrel, plus a myriad of other indigenous plants and animals. Henderson also has excellent conditions for snorkeling and diving and some of the most beautiful uninhabited beaches in the world.
