Alyeska is a premier ski resort located near the town of Girdwood, 61 kms from Anchorage, in the U.S. state of Alaska. It lies in a valley in the Chugach Mountains near the end of the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet, southeast of Anchorage proper. Girdwood is surrounded by seven permanent glaciers.
Alyeska is best known for its year round snow activities which include skiing, snowboarding, heli-skiing and cat-skiing, snow mobile tours and dog sledding. Summer activities in Alyeska and nearby Girdwood include hiking, fishing, rafting, kayaking and rock climbing. Other activities include the Girdwood’s Roundhouse Museum, the Girdwood Center for Visual Arts and the historic Crow Creek Mine.
