Grein is a small well-preserved city situated on the Danube river, Germany. The historic town theater of Grein (1791) is one of the outstanding sights of European importance. Here you can see many curiosities from olden times. You can also visit the lovingly set up special exhibition on old customs in the old town hall.
The impressive Greinburg castle towers above the village of Grein. It is the oldest residential castle of Austria and was built from 1500 to 1700. It features unique rooms with original wall decorations: Further highlights are the impressive knights’ hall, the castle chapel with its early-Baroque altar, a unique cellular vault, the fascinating play of light and shadow, the “Sala Terrana” theatre that has been decorated with pebbles from the Danube and the atmospheric arcade courtyard
