Lucerne is a city in north central Switzerland. It is a popular tourist destination located on the shore of Lake Lucerne within sight of Mount Pilatus and Rigi in the Swiss Alps.
Lucerne has many attractions including the Chapel Bridge, which is the oldest covered bridge in Europe. The old town has many half-timber structures with painted fronts. Remnants of the old town walls exist on the hill above Lucerne, complete with eight tall watch towers. Visitors can take a boat tour on Lake Lucerne or ascend Mount Pilatus by cable car.
