Alphonse Island lies in the heart of the Indian Ocean, 7° South of the Equator and 450 kms South West of Mahé, in the Outer Seychelles. She is a part of the Alphonse Group that extends 16 kms from North to South and comprises three islands: Alphonse in the North, Bijoutier and St Francois in the South.
The isolation of Alphonse acts as a magnet to migratory birds and Seychelles Bird Records Committee has recorded more bird species here than anywhere south of the granitics apart from Aldabra.
