Middelburg, Capital of the province of Zeeland, lies on the Veere-Vlissingen Canal on the former island of Walcheren, surrounded by a star shaped ring of grachten and canals. The town is over 1000 years old and has a rich history, boasting 1,100 heritage buildings and monuments.
Middelburg is a beautiful place, the Gothic town hall and the market square lined with cafes, restaurants,and a hotel or two must be seen. There are picturesque old alleys, streets and gateways with great views. There are also stately old town residences and warehouses which date back to the East India Company.

Travel Links - Middelburg can be reached by train from Amsterdam, taking 2 1/2 hrs to get there. The Middelburg Bus station is next to the Train station (as in most Dutch cities). Intercity and local buses are available. International flights are available to and from Amsterdam.
Middelburg is best seen on foot; however bicycles are available for getting around.
