Beaufort, South Carolina, USA
Charted in 1711, Beaufort is the second oldest city in South Carolina behind Charleston. It is located on Port Royal Island in the heart of Sea Islands and Lowcountry.
Beaufort has been called “Americas Happiest Seaside Town” and is known for its historic architecture and exquisite local cuisine. Remnants of the original English colonial settlement can be found in the downtown (historic district) area and it is one of only a handful of US towns that has had its entire downtown designated a historic district by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
A coastal town that has wonderful B&Bs and restaurants, Beaufort is also known for its outstanding golf courses, beaches, and outdoor adventures.
