Trujillo is the capital city of the Honduran department of Colón, situated on the northern Caribbean coast. The city is located on a bluff overlooking the Bay of Trujillo and is flanked by two prominent mountains, Mount Capiro and Mount Calentura.
The Fortaleza of Santa Barbara is a major attraction in Trujillo. Visitors can get unparalleled views of the bay. At the Rufino Galan museum pre-Columbian artifacts can be seen as well as an unusual stream fed swimming hole. There are also some great beaches at Trujillo, including Bahia Bar and Gringos and Puerto Castillo.
