Maio is the easternmost of the Sotavento islands of Cape Verde. It is located south of the islands of Boa Vista and east of Santiago. The island is also known for its large forest, which is unusual for Cape Verde.Vila do Maio, or just Vila, is the primary city on the island. It is the home to the island's airport and seaport.
Maio offers visitors vast deserted beaches, interesting salt pits, small villages and a variety of environments to explore.
