Ain Sukhna (Ain Soukhna, Ein Soukhna, Ein Sukhna, Ain Sokhna, el-Soukhna) is located on the Egyptian Red Sea Coast, and stretches from just south of Suez down the coast for about sixty kilometers. It is a popular weekend town with great beaches, coral reefs, dolphins, fishing and water sports.
Ain Sukhna is the closest beach area to Cairo, which is approximately two hours drive. It also serves as a convenient base for visiting several nearby sites. The Suez Canal is just to the north, while a ninety minute drive takes you to the Eastern Desert Monasteries. St. Anthony's in the Eastern Desert is significant as the world's oldest functioning monastery, and nearby is also the ancient monastery of St. Paul.
