The island of Lovund lies in Lurøy municipality, almost on the Arctic circle off Norway's north western coast to the north of Bronnoysund. It features a flat summit that rises to 625 metres above the sea and dominating the whole island and surrounding skerries. A tranquil little village occupies a small flat area to the east.
Lovund is known as one of the major nesting sites for the sea parrot, or puffin. It is a spectacular sight when, on or around April 14 every year, the puffins come in from the sea altogether in a huge flock to find their nesting sites in the scree. You can see puffins at close quarters until some time in August.
