Vlissingen is a municipality and a city in the southwestern Netherlands on the former island of Walcheren. With its strategic location between the Scheldt river and the North Sea, Vlissingen has been an important harbour for centuries. Vlissingen is mainly noted for the wharves on the Scheldt where most of the ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy are built.
From the Promenade and beach in Vlissingen you can watch the ocean vessels from all over the world sailing towards Antwerp. Along the promenade there are a host of hotels and pensions. North of the promenade there are stunning scenic areas on the west side of Walcheren.
Besides an extensive indoor shopping center, the Michiel de Ruyter harbor, deserves a visit. Along the harbor you will find the Armory where you can go to the bottom, stroke the rays or be shipwrecked. The Armory's watchtower presents spectacular views across Walcheren, the Westerschelde dam and the North Sea.
